Make Your Own Sample Pack

Make Your Own Sample Pack

Dec 2, 2020

This is a practise that I have been meaning to start doing for years. I had heard such great things and now I have finally joined in I can attest to its usefulness. Making your own sample pack from the highlights of your past tracks is a sure fire way to recycle great ideas in a way that you simply wouldn't in any other circumstance. Each track you write is full with great loop, FX hits and drum samples that you have crafted to make your own. Don't do them the disservice of chucking them away after one use!

This will be a space where you can ask for and give feedback to each other on your music, share and...

How A Compressor Works

How A Compressor Works

Jul 8, 2020

This week's video is on one of the most important aspects of music production. Compression. It took me a long time to properly understand it but it's actually not that complex. I think I was just afraid of it. - It’s a dynamic shaping tool like a limiter or maximiser - Think about how much variation you could have with a singer - The ‘dynamic range’ is the difference between quietist and the loudest part of the performance - You can control the peaks with a compressor - Instead of using automation to turn it down you can use a...
